Save Money Car Share,

Cut costs by sharing car journeys
3 October 2012

Cornwall Council is encouraging motorists to save on fuel costs by sharing journeys rather than driving alone.

The Council is a member of Carshare Cornwall, a free online group set up to put drivers wanting to share lifts in touch with one another. And with liftshare Week taking place this week (Monday 1 to Friday 5 October), now’s a good time to sign up!

Andy Roberts, scheme manager for Carshare Cornwall scheme said: “With ever rising fuel costs and increasing levels of congestion on our roads, it’s important for everyone to think about how we travel to work, education or for shopping trips.  As Cornwall is very rural, walking, cycling, or even public transport is not always a viable solution however grabbing a lift with someone could be.  Giving someone a lift, in exchange for a bit of petrol money could literally save you hundreds of pounds a year on fuel costs!

“20% of Cornish households do not have access to a car, so getting a lift with someone means they are not tied to public transport timetables and can have a greater choice and flexibility of when and where to travel.”

Allotment Meeting

This evening 47 people turned up to the new Looe Allotment Association meeting to discuss the setting up the association and brief those attending about the new allotments at St Martins.  The new allotment site is being leased from the Glebe for a period of 20 years by the Town Council and the association will manage it.   It is hoped that this scheme will be the start of building a community of common interest with a orchard etc.   If you are interested in having an allotment please contact Looe Town Council on 01503 262255 or me on 01503 264823

SEAGULL PROOF WASTE SACKS COMPLETED

Dear All,  Delighted to report that on the 12th March,  2012 I blogged that I had an idea for the council regarding Seagull proof waste sacks, well six months on some part of Looe will have them to trial.   The following areas will have the sacks to see if they work and stop the seaguls getting at the rubbish, these are

Shutta, Shutta Road, Church End, Higher Market Street, Lower Market Street and Station Road about 220 properties in all.   This is great news and shows that the council does listen to good ideas, will be asking the Town Council to support this project if it works.

Any comments please let me know as always 01503 264823 or atoms@cornwall.gov.uk

A very happy councillor
